How It Began

Our Story

Their story began in an unexpected place — Michelle first came into Niki's life as a client. What started as simple drop-offs for Ellie slowly turned into something Michelle found herself quietly looking forward to, especially after the loss of one of her dogs. Those small, everyday moments became a space for connection, comfort, and conversation.

As they talked more, layers unfolded. Michelle learned that Niki was queer, and something shifted — what had been easy conversation quickly became something deeper. There was an immediate sense of understanding, a feeling of being seen, and a connection that neither of them had to force.

Somewhere in those early conversations, Michelle asked Niki if she hiked. "If you consider old logging roads hiking," Niki said. "But I'd scale a rock bluff for a good view." It was the right answer.

Friendship came first, but it didn't stay there for long. They became inseparable, drawn together by a chemistry that was undeniable — effortless, grounding, and impossible to ignore.

On a September day in 2025, they set out for a ridge they'd been talking about all summer. Clouds rolled in as they climbed, but they pressed on — scrambling up a rocky spine, breaking through the mist until they stood together at the very top. Then they turned around and hiked back down.

It was on the descent, in a quiet alpine meadow, that Niki stopped and asked the question she'd been carrying all the way up the mountain. She asked — simply, directly, with her whole heart. What Niki didn't know was that Michelle had suspected something was coming. She'd brought a ring too. Before the moment had fully settled, Michelle reached into her pack and handed Niki a handwritten card — her own answer, already written, asking the same thing.

Two proposals. One meadow. Words on paper and words spoken aloud, and all of it true.

What began as chance timing grew into something meaningful, steady, and full of heart. And now, their story continues as they choose each other, every day — starting today.
